1. Mining activities: Chotanagpur plateau has richest mineral deposits in India. Coal, iron, manganese and bauxite etc. are extracted from this region. Apart from this oil reserves, copper, gold, diamond etc. mines are also located in the peninsular plateau.
2. Agricultural practices: A large proportion of population are engaged in agriculture of crops like Rice, Maize, Jowar, Groundnut, Sunflower, Coffee, Tobacco, Onion, Coconut, Natural rubber and Spices like Chilli, Turmeric, Cardamom and Black pepper etc.
3. Industrial sector: A large section of population are engaged in Iron and steel, silk, rubber and locomotives industries set up in the peninsular plateau. Bangalore is a hub for I.T. & C.S. professionals.
4. Tourism and recreational activities: Many tourist spots like Ooty, Coorg , beaches, temples etc. are situated in peninsular plateau. People are engaged in tourism and recreational sector.
