Question

Hydrogen gas occupies a volume of 400cm3 at a temperature of 300k normal atmospheric pressure.Find the volume of gas at 283K at constant pressure.

Solution

According to Charle's Law : For a fixed mass of gas at constant pressure (P) ,the volume is directly proportional to the kelvin temperature (T).
V ∝ T
Or, T1 /T2 = V1 /V2
V1 = 400 cm3
T1 = 300 K
V2 = ?
T2 = 283 K

V2 = V1 / T1 x T2
= 400 cm3/ 300 K x 283 K
= 377 cm3
