ice at 273 degree kelvin is more effective in cooling then water at room temperature. explain.

Solution

Dear Student,

This is because of more latent heat of fusion of ice than water. Latent heat of fusion is that in which a solid changes into liquid. Ice can absorb more heat from the surrounding because it is at lower temperature than water and therefore on absorption of heat it itself becomes warm and gives a cooling effect to the surrounding.

Water which has more temperature than ice can absorb less amount of heat and therefore provide less cooling effect.
