Question

If a compressed spring is dissolved in acid, what happens to the elastic potential energy of the spring ?

Open in App
Solution

Hi

The potential energy stored in the spring will be converted into heat energy, when the material of the spring reacts with the acid. The released molecules of the material of the spring, due to the reaction with the acid acquire kinetic energy, and as they collide with the acid molecules, this kinetic energy is converted into heat energy.

Cheers!!
