Solution

Salt water fishes are adjusted to the environment where they do not need a lot of salt in their bodies. Their bodies consist mostly of water. As they take in water, they excrete the excess salt through their urine and retain the water. This is termed as osmosregulation. When the salt water fish is put into fresh water, the osmoregulation system breaks down. Saltwater fish are not made to excrete more water, so if they are put into freshwater, they will take in lot of water and become waterlogged and die.
