Question

if current is pssing through a conductor placed along Y axis and the conductor is placed in the magnetic field whose direction is directed towards positive Z axis . Find the direction of force acting on the conductor

Open in App
Solution

Here, the direction of electric current and the direction of magnetic field are perpendicular,

Fleming's left hand rule gives the direction of force acting on current carrying wire placed in a magnetic field.

According to this rule:

Hold the forefinger, the center finger and the thumb of left hand at right angles to one another. Adjust fingers in such a way that the forefinger points in the direction of magnetic field and center finger points in the direction of current, then the direction in which the thumb points, gives the direction of force acting on the conductor.

The direction of force will be perpendicular to both current and magnetic field i.e along x-axis.
