The compound of hydrogen and oxygen used for extinguishing fire is water.
Water contains oxygen and hydrogen in bonded state.There is no O₂ molecule and H₂ molecule in water.When water is put on a fire it absorbs heat which is needed for the continuation of fire. Secondly, it separates the fuel from the oxidizer (air) thus preventing them from combining.In this way fire is stopped.
