Question

if one mole of carbon atoms weighs 12grams, what is the mass (in grams) of 1 atom of carbon ?

Open in App
Solution

Mass of 1 mole of carbon = 12 g

As 1 mole consist of 6.022 × 1023 particles, therefore

Mass of 6.022 × 1023 atoms of carbon = 12g

Mass of 1 atom = 12/ 6.22 × 1023 g

Hence mass of 1 atom of carbon is 1.99 × 10-23 g
