If plants can make their food through photosynthesis then why do they take oxygen through respiration? Do plants respire in day also?

Plants take oxygen to carry out respiration. Respiration and photosynthesis are entirely different processes. In photosynthesis, plants prepare food while in respiration food is oxidised and energy is released. Respiration is carried out by plants throughout day and night.
