If the density of an object placed on the water is equal to density of water, what will happen to the object and why?

According to law of floatation, an object will float on a liquid if its density is equal to that of the liquid, but no part of it will remain above the surface of the liquid. In this case, weight of the object is equal to the weight of the liquid displaced by it.
