Question

if the momentum of an object is quadrupled , how does its kinetic energy change?

Open in App
Solution

the relation between kinetic energy and momentum is given as

E = p2/2m

now as momentum is quadrupled,

E' = (4p)2 / 2m

so, the kinetic energy will be

E' = 8[p2 / 2m] = 8E

thus, the kinetic energy will increase eight times.
