Question

IF TWO OBJECTS ARE SEPA RATED BY DISTANCE d EXPERIENCING GRAVITATIONAL FORCE F . IF ONE OF THE MASSES IS DOUBLED AND DISTANCE BETWEEN THEM IS HALVED FIND FORCE BETWEEN THEM ?

Open in App
Solution

According to Newton's Law of Gravitation the force of gravitation between two objects separated by a certain distance is given as

F = GmM / r2

now for the second case

F' = Gm'M / r'2

where

m' = 2m

and

r' = r/2

sp, we get

F' = G(2m)M/ (r/2)2 = 8[GmM/r2]

thus,

F' = 8F

the force increases eightfold.
