If you are given a bar magnet and a piece of iron, how you find out if the piece of oron is a magnet or not?

The iron bar is brought closer to the bar magnet, if only attraction occurs by both the poles of magnet, then it is just a magnetic substance. But if one end of bar magnet attracts one end of iron bar and the other end of bar magnet repel it then it is a magnet having two poles.
