In blood, one molecule of haemoglobin can combine with four molecules of oxygen. The structure of haemoglobin consists of globular protein and heme group. heme group and the protein together forms a subunit. Four such subunits get attached to form a haemoglobin molecule. Each heme group of the subunit contains a single iron molecule that can bind one molecule of oxygen. Each haemoglobin contains four such subunits that bind with upto four oxygen.
