Solution

When we shift a number from one side of the equation to the other side then we use inverse operations. There are two pairs of inverse operations addition and subtraction , multiplication and division.

If a number is added to one side of the equation then we can subtract it from the other side.

x + 2 = 5 ⇒ x = 5 - 2

If a number is subtracted from one side of the equation then we can add it on the other side.

x - 2 = 5 ⇒ x = 5 + 2

If a number is multiplied to one side of the equation then we can divide it on the other side.

2x = 4 ⇒ x = 4 / 2

If a number is divided on one side of the equation then we can multiply it on the other side.

x / 2 = 4 ⇒ x = 2 × 4
