Question

In coastal areas what is the direction of flow of air during night ? Explain why ?

Open in App
Solution

Since air travels from a region of higher pressure to an area of lower pressure and at night the land cools off faster than the sea owing in differences in their heat capacity, air will flow from land to ocean. During night the temperature of land is low and therefore the air will be at higher pressure. On water surface the temperature is high and therefore the air will be less dense and will rise up. All these changes cause air flow from land to ocean.
