In couple of practice questions, there were problems which mentioned round off the number to nearest hundred and then multipy etc. One example was 986 and round off to nearest hundred. The answer explanation says rounded value is 990. Isnt it 1000 when rounded to nearest hundred? 990 is rounding to nearest tens. Isnt it? Kindly explain.

Yes your are right " Round off the nearest hundred of 986 will be 1000 . "

990 is the nearest tenth of the 986 .
