Question

In early classes i have learned that anode is positive end and cathode is negative. but in redox reactions in daniel cell its saying that cathode is positive and anode is negative. why?

The conventions for anode and cathode are opposite for electrochemical and electrolytic cell, Daniel cell is an electrochemical and hence its conventions are opposite i.e. cathode is positive and anode is negative
