Solution

Rayon is a synthetic manufactured fiber which resembles silk but costs less to produce. It can be died in variety of colours. That is why it is called as art silk or artificial silk.

  • Nylon fiber is produced by combining equal parts diamine and dicarboxylic acid, which react and create nylon salt. Then it is heated and dehydrated to form the polymer. Later it is melted and spun and the nylon fiber is produced.
  • Rayon fibre is made from organic matter. It is a cellulose fiber derived from a high-grade wood pulp. Then it is refined with a caustic soda and solidifies in an alkali-based bath to produce fine silken fibers.

Properties of Rayon:

  • Can be died in variety of colours.
  • Can be mixed with cotton to make bedsheets.
  • Can be mixed with wool to make carpets.

Properties of Nylon:

  • Strong fibre
  • Elastic and light
  • Lustrous and easy to wash
