In my book,it is given that a green mass forms on the surface of copper when exposed to air due to the formation of copper oxide and basic copper carbonate whereas in this chapter it is given that the green mass is a mixture of copper hydroxide and copper carbonate. Is the material written in my book is incorrect and I should neglect it?

The green colour deposit on copper surface is due to the presence formation of copper hydroxide and copper carbonate. Hence it a small mistake therefore you can neglect it.
