In our book it is written that a mixture of chalk powder and water is a suspension and a solution is a homogenous mixture of two or more substances.I want to know why cant we call mixture of chalk powder and water a solution.

Because chalk powder does not dissolve in water at all.

It just form a suspension in water and after some time settle down under the influence of gravity.
