In the hepatic portal system why does the deoxygenated blood from the veins gets into the liver ?
The Hepatic portal vein is one of the major components of the hepatic portal system. It carries blood from the gastrointestinal tract and drain it into the liver. The liver is responsible for the detoxification of the blood before it reaches the other parts of the body. That's why it is not considered as a true vein because it does not directly drain into the heart.
