Question

In the reaction 2A2 + 3B2 ---> 2A2B3

Identify the limiting reagent

  • 2 mol A + 3 mol B
  • 1mol A + 2 mol B
  • 100 atoms A + 100 atoms B

Open in App
Solution

2 A2 + 3 B2 → 2 A2B3.

2 moles of A2 will react with 3 moles of B2.

1 mole of A2 will react with 1.5 moles of B2.

2 mole of B2 will react with (2x2)/3 = 1.33 mole of A2.

Thus in second case A2. will be the limiting reagent.

4 mole atoms of A will react with 6 mole atoms of B.

100 mole atoms of A will react with (6x100)/4 = 150 mole atoms of B.

In third case B is the limiting reagent.
