The reaction of Cu and O2 can be represented as:
2Cu + O2 2CuO

Oxidation involves following changes:
1) Addition of oxygen
2​) Removal of hydrogen

3) removal of electrons

The above mention reaction is showing addition of oxygen. In term of addition of oxygen, oxidising agent is the species which provides oxygen for addition. And reducing agent is the species which form new compound by adding oxygen. So, in the given reaction O2 is an oxidizing agent and Cu is reducing agent.
