In tigers the normal fur colour is mainly orange with black stripes. This orange colour is caused by dominant allele R. Over a number of years, a pair of orange tigers produced 13 cubs. Three of these cubs were white. (white with black stripes).

a) state the genotypes of the parents.

b) show how an orange tiger mated with a white tiger could produce offsprings all of which are were orange .

  • Since the tiger produces only orange tigers, it must be homozygous.(RR)
  • This tiger must be crossed with the homozygous recessive white tiger.(rr)

So, Genotype of parents: RR x rr

The F1 progeny shows only orange tigers.
