Question

in which state the speed of sound is max.(solid, liquid, gas)

Open in App
Solution

Hi,

The speed of sound through a medium depends on the elastic modulus of the medium. The elastic moduli of solids are higher than liquids and gases. Therefore, sound travels faster in solids. In solids, the molecules are bonded strongly than in liquids and gases. Therefore, the stiffness (elastic modulus) of the solids is high.

Cheers!!
