Question

In xenogamy isn't it necessary to write pollination between different plants of same species ? Or can it occur in different species ?

Open in App
Solution

Xenogamy occurs when the pollens from a flower of one plant is transferred to the stigma of a flower of another plant. As we know that the pollination (transfer of pollens) generally occurs by wind, water, insects, birds or animals. so pollination does not ensure transfer of pollen grains between same species. It may occur between different species but interaction of pollen and pistil occurs only between same and compatible species. So, the two different plants within which the pollination is occurring may be of same species or different species.
