induced fit theory?
Induced fit theory is a proposed theory of enzymatic function. It works similarly as the lock-and-key mechanism. The theory states the substrate induces a change in the active site of the enzyme so that the substrate exactly fits in there. Also, both the enzyme and its substrate change shape so that only specific substrate bind to the enzyme resulting in the desired products from the reaction.
In the presence of the substrate the enzyme changes its conformation in such a way that the active site of the enzyme acquires the exact shape for the substrate to fit in. This results in efficient, specific and stronger binding between the substrate and the enzyme.
