The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act was passed in 2005, protecting all women from any kind of domestic violence by a member of the family she has a relationship with. The person suffering violence could be a daughter, daughter-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, sister, women who has a domestic relationship with anyone. The person perpetrating violence could either be a man or a woman.

The latest act protecting women's rights however is, the Sexual Harrassment at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. This Act protects the fundamental right of all to earn a livelihood. It also protects women against sexual harrassment at her workplace which could be discrimination, eve-teasing, passing lewd comments, sexual or physical abuse, unwelcomed verbal or non-verbal offensive conduct etc.,.
