Question

ionic compounds do not conduct electricity in the solid state but do so in molten state.explain

Open in App
Solution

Dear student!

Actually, when the ionic compounds(for ex: in NaCl) are in solid state the ions are closely attached with each other but in molten state the ions get separated and so that the negative ion (like Cl- ion)is deposited over anode and positive (Na+ ion) is deposited over cathode and the electrons are transferred to conduct the electricity.
