Question

is respiration of muscle is anaerobic respiration? why lactic acid causes pain in our muscles?

Open in App
Solution

The respiration in muscle cells turns anaerobic only in the case of heavy exercise when oxygen supply cannot meet up the demand of the cell. Only then the muscle cell starts respiring anaerobically.

Lactic acid deposition during exercise or anaerobic respiration results in the cell medium turning acidic. such acidity causes muscle soreness and further aggravates irritation to nerve endings that causes the pain.
