Solution

Sound is a form of mechanical energy. It travels by compression and rarefaction of the air molecules which actually move from their mean positions when sound travels. So, in a way the compression and rarefaction stores potential energy in the molecules and releases in the form of kinetic energy by movement of the molecules.
