Question

is that ion-ion foce is as same as dipole induced dipoleforce?

Open in App
Solution

Ion-ion forces (or ion-ion interaction) and dipole induced dipole forces are two very different type of interactions and not the same. Ion-ion forces are the electrostatic forces that operate between two oppositely charged ions that is a cation and an anion. These are very strong forces and are responsible for high melting points of ionic solids. Also, these are the principle forces that operate in ionic compounds like NaCl, KCl, MgCl2 etc.

Dipole induced dipole on the other hand are the attractive forces operating between the a molecule possessing a permanent dipole and the molecules lacking permanent dipole. Permanent dipole of the polar molecule induces dipole on the electrically neutral molecule by deforming its electronic cloud. Thus an induced dipole is developed in the other molecule.
