Is water a poor conductor of heat or a strong one? How can we tell whether a substance is a poor conducter of heat or a strong conducter of heat?
Water has a very high specific heat and is also a very poor conductor of heat.
We can tell whether a material is good or a bad conductor of heat by heating one of its end and noticing the amount of time it takes for heat to travel to the other end. In other words, how quickly is heat transferred through it. We can compare the times with something like copper or any other metal (which have good heat conductivities).
