Karan was studying about crops. He studied that just like humans, plants also require certain nutrients which are essential for proper growth. He observed that the plants in the kitchen garden maintained by his mother were not healthy. He told his mother to use organic manure.

  1. (i) List two different sources from where a plant gets the 16 essential nutrients.

  2. (ii) Which physiological processes are affected if there is deficiency of nutrients?

Dear student,

(1) Plants uptake nutrients like N, P and K from soil organic matter and other from the clay minerals these are nutrients present in the parent material. Other nutrients like C,H & O comes from water and air.

(2) The deficiency of nutrients affects the growth and development in plants by affecting the physiological processes like photosynthesis, metabolism, reproduction etc.
