Leaves are the only component in this world that can prepare food (glucose) by trapping solar energy. No other organisms can trap solar energy. This food is passed to the organisms that eat leaves and to them those eat leaf eating animals. In this way the trapped solar energy along with the glucose passes from one organism to another. Thus leaves of plants are the only source of glucose that are distributed to the entire world.
