Solution
This phenomenon of light passing through a thin cloth can be explained by its wave nature. There are very fine holes in cloth when the threads are woven. As light passes through these obstructed holes, it may superimpose or bend constructively or destructively to generate patterns (if only its able to satisfy the conditions for interference and diffraction). The particle nature of light ( that says light is made up of photons) has no role to play in the explanation.
