Lipids are the diverse group of compounds that include oil, fat, wax and some components of cell membrane. Some of them are hydrophilic and soluble in water whereas some are hydrophobic. Triglycerides are lipids that are stored inside adipose tissue to provide insulation. Some lipids like steroid hormone act as messenger between cells and tissues. The membranes of cells and organelles are made up of phospholipid bilayers that protect the cells and allow some selective materials to enter inside. For all these reasons lipids are called amazing molecules. They are highly diverse both structurally and functionally.
