Solution

The maximum space between particles (atoms or molecule) are occupy when they are packed in crystal. Only solids get packed in crystalline structure. In case of liquids the molecules have space between them. That is why when we dissolve something in it ,it takes place in between the particles of liquid.(remember the experiment is done in lower classes to show this.)
