liquids like water too are combined by ionic bonds , thenb why is it that liquids have weak forces of attraction?

In liquids the inter particle spaces are large as compared to the solids therefore in this context we can say that they have weak forces of attraction between the particles of the molecules.

While in case of solids there is strong forces of attraction between the particles of the molecules which holds them strongly and therefore exists as a solid..
