The water pollution have following harmful effects on aquatic life :
Increased concentration of nitogen and phosphorous due to pollution in water bodies results in algal growth. This algae consumes all the oxygen of the water body and aquatic animals die because of lack of oxygen.
The pollutants can also be toxic for the fauna and flora of aquatic ecosytem such as mercury.
If there is discharge of hot water in the water bodies then it causes thermal pollution. There will be sudden increase in the temperature of water and many of the organismas will not be able to survive it and die.
