Solution

Indian principle of Secularism is not absolute, Government is not strictly separated from religion. State practices principled distance where it can initiate state sponsored reforms , government can intervene to ban those practices which go against the very idea of fundamental rights to life and dignity and which are unjust and discriminatory. Government has done it before as in case of abolishing sati, untouchability for the purpose of reforming Hindu religion. Any interference by the State in religion is to be based on the ideals laid down in the constitution.

US concept of Secularism is based on mutual exclusion. There is a strict separation of state and religion. State does not interfere in the religion and in the same manner, religion does not interfere in the affairs of the state. They have their own separate spheres all together.
