Question

list the factors resulting in speciation. Will geological isolation be a major factor in speciation by a self pollinating species? why or why not?

Solution

Speciation is a process of evolution by which there occurs formation of a species with new and distinct features.

Factors :
1. Reproductive isolation.
2. Geographic Isolation.
3. Reduction of Gene Flow
4. Evolutionary factors
5. Gene mutations

Geographical isolation can prevent the transfer of pollens among different plants. However, since the plants are self-pollinating, which means that the pollens are transferred from the anther of one flower to the stigma of the same flower or of another flower of the same plant, geographical isolation cannot result in speciation in this case.
