Literacy rate in India is increasing steadily, what are its main reasons ?
Reasons for rising literacy rate are:
a. Government has taken some effective steps and measures to encourage education among the children like Narvodaya Vidayala has been established in each district.
b. The government India passed a legislation in 2009, The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act or Right to Education Act (RTE), that makes education a fundamental right from 2010 and provides free and compulsory education to children between 6 to 14 years.
c. Government programme of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan which seeks to attain Universalization of elementary education with support of local government and community members.
d. Programmes like back to school camps, mid day meals have been initiated.
e. A number of vocational colleges and institutes have been set up to provide technical training and education.
f. There has been substantial increase in Universities and other institutes for higher education.
