Funaria is a water moss that grows in moist, damp soil.
The two stages of gametophytic phase in the life cycle of Funaria are as follows-
Protonema stage-The spores of the mosses germinate to form a thread like filamentous structure known as protonema. It is the photosynthetic in function. Present in all mosses and in some liverworts. It represents the juvenile stage of gametophyte.
Foliose(leafy) stage-It is a leafy or thalloid like structure that arise from the protonema. It represents the adult stage of gametophyte.
