Mention the role of nitrogen fixing bacteria in soil.

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

There are some bacteria and blue-green algae, which fix the atmospheric nitrogen into soil, thereby increasing the fertility of soil. They are known as biological nitrogen fixers. One such bacterium is Rhizobium, which is found in the root nodules of leguminous plants such as pulses. It lives in symbiotic association with plants and fixes the atmospheric nitrogen in leguminous plants.

Cheers!
