Michael is 6 times as old as his granddaughter laura.

1. if laura's present age is x years. Write down in terms of x the ageof Michael in 15 years.

2. In 15years time, Michael will be 3 times as old as Laura.

Write an equation in x and hence find their present ages.

Answer :

1 ) Laura's present age = x years
And
As given Michael age is 6 times of Laura ,
So ,
Michael present age = 6x years ------------- ( 1 )

So after 15 years his age will be

6x + 15 ( Ans )

2 ) As given : ​In 15years time, Michael will be 3 times as old as Laura. :
So we get our expression from

Michael age after 15 years = 3 ( Laura's age after 15 years )
So we get

6x + 15 = 3 ( x + 15 )

6x + 15 = 3x + 45

3x = 30 ( Ans )

And

x = 10 , substitute that value in equation 1 , we get

Michael present age = 6 ( 10 ) = 60 years
So,
Laura's present age = 10 Years
And
Michael present age = 60 Years ( Ans )
