Let the total money be Rs. x.

Now, Son's share = $\frac{1 x}{3} o r \frac{x}{3}$ , daughter's share = $\frac{1 x}{5} o r \frac{x}{5}$

Remaining share is Rs. 4200 which is given to his wife, that means, remaining share she gets is

$x - \frac{x}{3} - \frac{x}{5}, LCM = 15 \Rightarrow x - \frac{x}{3} - \frac{x}{5} = 42000 \Rightarrow \frac{15 x - 5 x - 3 x}{15} = 42000 \Rightarrow \frac{7 x}{15} = 42000 \Rightarrow x = \frac{42000 \times 15}{7} = \frac{630000}{7} = 90000 Hence, the total sum is Rs . 90000 .$
