My question is whether these Arrhenius and Bronsted- Lowry Concept of ACID and BASE don't have any LIMITATIONS?

  • Arrhenius theory - Compound releasing H+ ion on dissolving on water are called acid and compound releasing OH- are called base.

Limitation - Unable to explain the acidic or basic character of compound which are insoluble in water.

  • Bronsted-Lowry concept - Compound donate H+ ion are called acid and compound except H+ ion are calld base.

Limitation - Unable to explain which compound is acid or base in which hydrogen is absent.
