Name different types of vagetation found in India and describe the vegetation of high altitudes.
The different kinds of natural vegetation found in India are as follows:
(i) Tropical Evergreen Forests
(ii) Tropical Deciduous Forests
(iii) Tropical Thorn Forests and Scrubs
(iv) Montane Forests
(v) Mangrove Forests
Montane forests are found in regions of high altitude. Vegetation in high altitude areas above 3600 metres above sea level adapt to the low temperatures and precipitation levels. Coniferous trees like junipers, silver fir, pines and birches are found here. Lichens and moss are also part of the vegetation at higher altitudes. Alpine grasslands are pasture for grazing for tribes like Gujjars and Bakharwals in the mountainous regions.
